Winning Is Great…But Making Someone A Loser Is REALLY Great!

“What’s better than winning?  Doing it while someone else loses.”

Just one fascinating thought within a solid article in the July 18th Newsweek, Why Winners Win At… by Nick Summers.  Regardless whether the battlefield is a tennis court…a boxing ring…or, um…even a battlefield, this piece looks at the “science of triumph in sports, business and life” and how some folks have brains whose electrical wiring may be way more than just up to code.

There are some real-life examples of how the mind truly does matter…over matter.  The cerebral layers of the brain are dissected but this is neither a long nor heavily medicated read.

As I’ve already given away, it was refreshing to see someone confirm great achievement often feels that way at someone else’s expense…and that adds to the pleasure of the achievement.

We kind of leave that part out in the victory and acceptance speeches, don’t we?

  1. JW says:

I forget which comedian did this bit about the boxer thanking Jesus for allowing him to crush his opponent’s brain stem, leaving him a vegetable and me the champ!

Is that kinda what you’re headed for here? :)

  2. And they say comedy is not pretty…I think boxing is a fine, in-your-face example of winning vs. losing. You don’t just want to win there. You want the other boxer to lose…a lot.
